Our worship reflects the traditions of the Church of England whilst being welcoming, inclusive and accessible to everyone. We recognise and value the diversity of our school community, including those from different faith backgrounds and those with no religious affiliation. Participation is always invitational, allowing each individual to engage with integrity and in a way that is meaningful to them. 

 Through Collective Worship, we encourage children to explore big questions about life, faith, relationships and the world around them. Worship supports the development of our Christian values, including generosity, compassion, courage, forgiveness, friendship, respect, thankfulness, trust, perseverance, justice, service and truthfulness. These values help shape our pupils into thoughtful, caring and responsible members of society. 

Our worship follows the Church of England liturgical year and uses a variety of approaches including Bible stories, prayer, music, reflection, silence, drama and discussion. We use the Anglican worship structure of Gather, Engage, Respond and Send, helping children to connect with Christian teachings in meaningful and age-appropriate ways. 

At St Mary's, we believe that Collective Worship is far more than a daily gathering. It is the heartbeat of our school, nurturing spirituality, strengthening our sense of belonging, and inspiring everyone to live out our vision of aspiring, believing, belonging and achieving, guided by the love of God.

Worship Warriors

Children take an active role in worship at St Mary's. Our Year 4/5 Worship Warriors help prepare the worship space and lead prayers, while older pupils support with the practical organisation of services. They are also supporting Mrs Macartney to write a St Mary's school prayer. 

St Mary's Church

We are proud of our strong partnership with St Mary's Church, and Reverend Suzie regularly leads worship in school, strengthening the connection between our school and parish community. Our children enjoy many opportunities to take part in special services at St Mary's Church throughout the year—often leading prayers, readings, or singing.

Organisation

Collective Worship is planned half termly and follows a two year cycle.  We mostly  follow the Roots and Fruits publication which focuses on a key value each half term however also take into account the liturgical calandar. The weekly implementation of the planned themes comes to life as follow:
